Calorie balance from the data you already track

CalBal

CalBal reads food, activity, resting calories, and weight from Apple Health, then turns them into daily, weekly, and monthly energy-balance trends. Your daily goal and live calorie balance update in real time, so you can make more informed adjustments while the day is still happening.

Calories can be entered by the nutrition, fitness, and health apps you already use.

WEIGHT HISTORY

Put everyday fluctuations in perspective.

Follow your weigh-ins alongside a smoothed trend and your goal line. Switch between week, month, quarter, and year to see your progress over time.

Your resting burn should not be a generic guess.

Resting/BMR calories are a major part of daily energy burn, but standard estimates can be off for real people. CalBal compares calorie-derived weight change with your actual weight trend over the last 30 days, then recommends adjustments based on your recorded data. Apply a suggested resting calorie value directly in the app to make your balance more personal.

Example calibration recommendation to adjust resting calories to 1,847 calories per day. Weight change comparison chart showing calorie-derived weight change as a dashed orange line and actual weight change as a blue line.

Built around your actual workflow.

Getting set up

You do not enter data directly into CalBal because the app automatically pulls all of its information from the Apple Health database. To record your data, you simply log your meals, workouts, and weight into any third-party app that integrates with Apple Health, or enter them directly into Apple's native Health app.

How to Sync Your Data

  • Food & Nutrition: Log your meals using compatible tracking apps like MyFitnessPal, Lose It!, or Cronometer, ensuring they have permission to write "Dietary Energy" to Apple Health.
  • Workouts & Activity: Track your exercises using an Apple Watch, or log activities through fitness apps like Strava and Nike Run Club which automatically sync active calories.
  • Body Weight: Step on a smart scale connected to Apple Health (such as Withings or Renpho), or manually type your weight into the Apple Health app.
  • App Permissions: Open the iPhone Settings app, navigate to Apps, select Health, tap Data Access & Devices, choose CalBal, and ensure all "Read" permissions are toggled on.
